Suppliers which demonstrate the ability to innovate and adapt to the new challenges created by the current economic climate will be those most highly sought after, a Manufacturers Monthly report has suggested.
The comments come from Dr Peter Campbell, improvement manager for Australian bus body manufacturer Volgren, in a recent report commenting on the upcoming logistics conference Smart 2009.
To be held in Sydney from June 10th to June 11th, the conference will deal with many aspects currently making supply chain management more difficult and will feature a range of speakers ready to provide insight into making the most of the poor economy.
Companies in the UK unable to attend the conference may instead wish to contract a third-party supply chain management company in order to benefit from an external viewpoint on how changes can be made for the better.
An external supply chain manager could offer the chance to increase efficiency or reduce CO2 emissions in a supply chain.
"Suppliers that are heavily reliant on industries highly correlated to the prevailing economic conditions are now seeking to broaden their consumer base and diversify some of their exposure," Dr Campbell said in the Manufacturers Monthly article.
