Supply chain issues 'affecting offshore wind industry'

Issues affecting supply chain strategies are "dominating" the offshore wind industry at the moment, according to a recent conference.

Speakers and attendees at the UK Offshore Wind conference, which took place in Liverpool, said that formulating the correct supply chain strategy will be of the utmost importance in the coming months as the industry looks to move on following the economic downturn.

However, Richard Reno, a senior GE executive, told Renewable Energy World at the conference that "ramping up" the supply chain with the necessary quality is going to be a challenge.

"Onshore the turbine is the majority of the cost so it's easy to focus on. Offshore it's more like 50-50 so you can't lose sight of half of your costs," he explained.

It comes after renovation company Apollo announced it is holding a series of events across the UK in a bid to attract new supply chain partners, as it is aiming to expand from its base in the south-east of England.
