Supply chain management software has experienced an unexpected downturn in 2009, according to Gartner.
The IT industry analyst found worldwide revenues for the industry declined, with new licence revenue dropping by over seven per cent.
But it still recorded revenues of $6.2 billion (£4.2 billion) a 0.7 per cent drop from 2008.
Gartner said supply chain management solution vendors found it tough to attract buyers for its software, but some did succeed in growing their business by switching their offering to subscription delivery.
And Chad Eschinger, research director at the company, said the figures actually reveal the market for supply chain applications weathered the financial storm very well.
In the wake of the recession, many firms have reassessed their business models and pricing strategies in order to boost their performance.
Gartner is the world's leading information technology research and advisory company, with 4,300 associates, including 1,200 research analysts and consultants, and clients in 80 countries.
