Siemens is to target supply chain improvements with a new partnership, it has been reported.
Barloworld Supply Chain Software is to provide the global technology innovation company with supply chain modelling, network design and optimisation.
Siemens wants to centralise its supply chain network on a global scale, having previously optimised supply on a national or regional basis.
Barloworld Supply Chain Software will use its CAST software, a powerful desktop application that finds where supply chain efficiencies can be made, resulting in cost savings.
Ewan French, chief operating officer at Barloworld Supply Chain Software, said: "The ability for Siemens to model its supply chain centrally will offer the opportunity to simplify what is an extremely complex network and in doing so reduce cost.
"Businesses using CAST typically achieve a ten to 15 per cent saving on their supply chain costs through the application of network optimisation."
Barloworld Ltd, the parent company, is one of the biggest firms in South Africa and has over 600 clients worldwide.
