BG Group may see bidding war

Wednesday, 18/2/2009 01:02
A bidding war may break out over the opportunity to buy Pure Energy as BG Group upped its offer against international competition for the Australian gas company yesterday (February 18th).

The deal highlights the increasing nature of supply chain management to companies across the UK, as the value of Pure Energy is heavily linked to its ability to provide large quantities of liquefied natural gas; thought to be extremely valuable both as a result of the predicted rise in demand for energy and because of the increase in demand for cleaner fuels.

Companies in the UK will also need to begin assessing their own energy costs at a time when oil prices are particularly volatile and the pressure to provide environmentally friendly goods is rising.

Small or medium sized companies hoping to increase their green credentials could do so by contracting a third-party supply chain management company, which can provide solutions in order to create a more energy efficient - and green - organisation.

Pure Energy has said that an offer from the UK's BG Group of A$995 million (£446 million) would be taken within seven days if no better offer was made.
