Clipper wins new ten year deal with ASDA

Logistics operator Clipper has won a ten-year contract with supermarket giant ASDA.

Clipper, which currently handles 55 million units for ASDA from its base in Darlington, will look after distribution of George clothing ranges from a new centre at Wynward near Teesport.

The new premises has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the client, with hanging conveyors and a three-tier mezzanine for garments.

Ian Stansfield, distribution director at Asda, told LogisticsManager.com that Clipper has proven its worth since the two companies began working together in 2009 by providing significant cost reductions.

He added: “On the strength of this success, and our growing clothing business, we have taken the unprecedented step of signing this ten year contract for Clipper to provide port centric solutions at the new Clipper Wynyard Portcentric Centre.”

Rival supermarket Waitrose also recently announced that it is bolstering its transport planning process and unveiled details for a new warehouse near to Chorley in Lancashire.
