Transport planning bosses may be struggling with rising costs during the current business climate, but that did not dampen interest in the Commercial Vehicle Operator Show this month.

The event, which took place at Birmingham's NEC Arena from April 13th to 15th, has been hailed as a "rip-roaring success" by organisers, exhibitors and visitors.

Road Haulage Association chief executive Geoff Dunning, speaking on behalf of the Show Partnership, said there was plenty for operators to see and consider.

In spite of some doubts concerning the success of the show at what is "still a critical time in economic terms", he declared himself pleased with the turnout.

"I am delighted that last week proved, without a shadow of doubt, that there is still the need and the enthusiasm to showcase transport and logistics; the most important player in the recovery and future success of the UK economy," Mr Dunning said.

A total of 300 exhibitors were on hand to showcase their products to the thousands of visitors who made the trip to the NEC.

Prior to the event, Mr Dunning had attempted to raise interest in the show by declaring it a welcome boost to transport firms during a difficult time for the sector.
