Transport planning bosses may still be struggling with the effects of the recession, but the popularity of the latest industry show suggests things could be looking up.

According to organisers of the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Operator Show, more than 250 exhibitors have already booked their place at the upcoming event.

Over 50 of those companies confirmed will be exhibiting at the show for the first time and officials said interest so far has been "tremendous".

Nick Jones, chief executive of the Society of Operations Engineers, one of the three show partners, said: "The past 12 months have been particularly difficult for the UK road freight industry.

"Those who have been sufficiently resilient to weather the recent financial storm will emerge leaner, fitter, more cost-effective and more cost-efficient than ever before."

Mr Jones added that he was "delighted" with the confidence shown by the range of suppliers and services scheduled to attend the show, which takes place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham from April 13th to 15th.

The event will showcase all the latest fleet technology and innovations, including vehicle tracking, telematics, routing and scheduling and onboard computing.
