Crossrail to examine supply chain management
Crossrail bosses in London have sensibly taken the step of commissioning a study into the supply chain management of the project.
Following concerns over the scheme's impact on the capital, Crossrail has now asked DHL Exel Supply Chain to carry out an assessment of the project's logistics, according to Supply Chain Exec.
Crossrail executive director Keith Berryman explained that the company is keen to limit the disruption.
"It is critically important that the impact on central London is kept to a minimum while Crossrail's construction is underway," he said.
"DHL will develop solutions that do not adversely impact economic activity, which is a key concern for the mayor and Transport for London, business groups and other stakeholders.
"By carefully planning how construction materials will be delivered we can also eliminate unnecessary lorry journeys, which benefits London through less congestion but also through lower carbon dioxide emissions."
Improved supply chain management should also help the company save money throughout the project, which is set to last more than seven years.
The railway line will eventually link Heathrow with east London and beyond, with trains set to carry up to 1,500 people.
