Transport planning bosses have been reminded of the importance of effective risk management strategies in reducing the number of accidents on the roads.
As part of the government's Driving for Better Business campaign, managed by RoadSafe, more than 40 "business champions" have already been named.
The companies were selected for their good practice and safety records, in the hope that they would help encourage other organisations to adopt similar strategies.
Caroline Scurr, director of the Driving for Better Business campaign, said improving road safety and management could save lives and money for transport firms.
"The business champions are real world testimony to the ability to significantly impact costs and reduce on-road incidents and risk exposure generally by putting in place a range of interventions," she commented.
Ms Scurr added that the campaign will continue to drive home the benefits of good occupational road safety to both public and private sector organisations.
Earlier this week, the Freight Transport Association also highlighted the importance of road safety with the launch of its Van Excellence Code, which encourages better self-regulation, improved training and greater vehicle safety in the industry.
