The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is inviting transport planning bosses and logistics chiefs around the country to help make a difference as the season of goodwill approaches.

Members of the UK's leading freight trade body will have the option to make a donation to international development charity Transaid alongside their usual annual membership fees.

The group aims to use the funding to help make transport safer, cheaper, cleaner and more efficient in Africa and other developing nations, reducing poverty and improving life for locals.

In order to do so, it works with experts across the UK transport and logistics industry, as well as various governments and other organisations, providing professional driver training and fleet management advice to companies.

Pippa Attwood, FTA's general manager for membership and marketing, said the group is proud to support Transaid's "outstanding work".

"The donations which FTA members are making will hopefully make a big difference to those who are most in need in some of the world's poorest countries," she added.

Last month, FTA also offered a helping hand to UK transport planning chiefs with the launch of a new sat nav unit designed specifically for use with HGVs.
