Mercedes-Benz Actros lands Truck of the Decade award

Transport planning bosses keen to add to their fleets may be tempted by one of the latest models from Mercedes-Benz after it was crowned Truck of the Decade.

The manufacturer's Actros vehicle drove away with the gong after an online reader poll by Truck & Driver magazine put it ahead of nine rival models.

Readers were asked to choose their favourite from a list of ten vehicles, all of which had won the title of Truck of the Year over the past ten years.

The Actros 2009 model emerged as the clear victor in the vote and Truck & Driver editor Will Shiers was not surprised by the outcome.

"Actros is a great truck to both drive and live in," he said.

"The owner-driver and the accountant should be happy too, as the Actros constantly wins friends for its frugal fuel economy and running costs."

Other entrants in the poll included the Iveco Stralis, which won Truck of the Year in 2003 and the Daf XF 105 model, which landed the honour in 2007.

The award win comes after Mercedes-Benz UK last month confirmed plans to return to the Commercial Vehicle Show with a full line-up of exhibitions next year following a successful 2010 show.
