A new partnership between the UK's Transport Research Laboratory and Indian IT solutions provider IBS could lead to new developments in logistics transport planning.

The two organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding to carry out a series of technology-focused research activities aimed at redefining the future of road travel.

It also covers new product development and training on issues surrounding transport management and safety.

VK Mathews, chairman and chief executive officer of IBS, said the project is aimed at making road transport across the globe, sustainable and more efficient across the globe.

"Among several other things, we will work together in developing road safety solutions that can be implemented anywhere in the world within a short time frame," he revealed.

Mr Mathews added that the collaboration will go a long way towards broadening technology's role in the travel and logistics industry.

News of the agreement comes after planners this week gave the go-ahead for a new intelligent transport centre to be built in Warwickshire.

The InnovITS - ADVANCE Centre is designed to provide world-class testing facilities that will help spur research and development in the transport industry.ADNFCR-1654-ID-19370169-ADNFCR
