Transport planning bosses keen to improve cost reduction and boost overall efficiency may wish to follow the example of one British company.

Thornton and Ross, the UK's biggest independent pharmaceutical manufacturer, has added a new Euro 5 Renault Premium 270.18 rigid to its fleet.

Rob Henderson, distribution manager at the company, said the Renault Premium's excellent value and comfortable cab made it stand out from other marques.

He added that the truck also meets the firm's environmental requirements, as well as offering significant long-term savings on fuel.

"Whilst we are a multi-million pound growing industry, we are dedicated to making our operation as efficient as possible to allow us to stay competitive while reducing waste and our environmental impact," Mr Henderson said.

The Renault truck will be used to deliver pharmaceutical products to high street retailers, wholesalers and supermarkets across the UK.

Last month, British haulage company Slough International Freight and Packaging also took delivery of a new Renault vehicle.

The firm, which provides 24-hour delivery anywhere in the UK, added a 6x2 Renault Magnum 500.25 as it sought to boost efficiency and reduce transport costs.
