RHA issues reminder over workforce agreements

Transport planning bosses have been reminded of the need to ensure their workforce agreements are valid and up to date.

According to the Road Haulage Association (RHA), it will soon be five years since the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations 2005 were brought into effect.

Many freight operators and logistics firms introduced their agreements soon after the rules were announced in April 2005, but the contracts are only valid for a period of five years.

The RHA is therefore reminding members to ensure they renegotiate terms with the workers concerned over the next few months.

Ruth Pott, employment affairs director at the organisation, said: "Don't delay the renewal of these agreements. They are absolutely essential to the efficient operation of your business."

The agreements were introduced at transport firms across the UK as a means of improving flexibility for staff and employers in specific operations.

Last week, the RHA praised hauliers across the country for their role in helping to keep the UK economy going as snow and ice brought many parts of the nation to a standstill.
