Transport planning bosses are to be offered a lesson in fuel efficiency and cost reduction at an industry seminar later this month.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) will run a half-day event detailing the role of telematics in helping to slash fuel usage, lower emissions and cut costs.
Experts and keynote speakers will outline the benefits of the technology, with a particular focus on the advantages it can bring for van operators.
SMMT's manager of commercial vehicle affairs Robin Dickeson said: "The aim is to start discussion and make people aware of the big savings in fuel use, emissions and cash that are available right now from the intelligent use of telematics."
He added that telematics systems could provide savings of at least ten per cent within just days of being implemented.
Last month, the Road Haulage Association called on ministers to help reduce costs of transport firms across the UK by bringing an end to the recent fuel duty rises.
The organisation said the fuel tax on hauliers has increased by some 16 per cent over the past two years, putting added pressure on companies during the recession.
