Sat-nav could improve logistics

A recent survey for the AA has found that satellite-navigation users believe the technology to be the best device in their vehicle.

More than half (54 per cent) of members who use a sat-nav device agreed it is the best 'toy' they have ever had for their vehicle.

Furthermore, a massive 61 per cent admitted that the devices had saved them time and money by stopping them from getting lost on countless occasions.

Professional drivers need to know where they are and where they are going at all times to ensure they are as productive as possible, while logistics and supply chain managers should ensure their drivers are well-equipped.

AA president Edmund King explained that the devices can also boost safety on the roads.

"Satellite navigation systems are brilliant devices if used safely," he said.

"A majority of those that have them think they are the best in-car device ever.

"These devices can enhance safety by reassuring drivers they are on the right route. Often roads are poorly signed so the sat-nav helps as a guide."
