Transport planning chiefs across the UK may welcome an ongoing scheme to help stamp out truck theft within the logistics sector.
TruckersWorld's Truck Theft Text Alert (TTTA) initiative aims to reduce the number of stolen vehicles and bring offenders to justice.
By passing on details of missing trucks or trailers to HGV drivers up and down the UK, the scheme encourages workers to be on the look out for the vehicles.
Once they have spotted the culprit, they can then alert the police, allowing officers to recover the load and deal with the criminals accordingly.
The campaign already has strong support within the driving community and the Freight Transport Association has become the latest organisation to lend its backing.
Spokesman for the group Jo Tanner said: "TruckersWorld's Truck Theft Text Alert will hopefully not only help in the recovery of losses but also put thieves off altogether."
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the truck industry has recently experienced a bright spot in terms of sales.
The organisation said registration figures for September are expected to be better than during previous months, although a recovery in the sector is still some way off.
