Continued investment in driver training and safety is vital to the success of any transport enterprise, an expert has claimed.

Steve Ellis, head of national training at the Road Haulage Association (RHA), said transport planning bosses should not underestimate the importance of training.

Speaking ahead of this year's Commercial Vehicle Operator Show, which takes place in Birmingham next month, he revealed that more firms are realising the need for improved training and education.

The RHA will be running a series of workshops at the forthcoming exhibition covering aspects such as health and safety and driver Certificate of Professional Competence.

"The Managing Your Operators Licence course is proving particularly popular with owners, directors and managers all gaining the benefit of seven hours approved training towards their own Driver CPC needs," Mr Ellis revealed.

A number of other exhibitors will also be on hand at the show to offer advice on the ever-changing legislation and requirements surrounding transport training.

Transport planning chiefs can also find information in a free electronic guide released by road safety charity Brake last week.

The resource, which is available online, provides tips on safety and education for company drivers, as well as training and risk management.
