Transport planning bosses may back Conservative proposals that could help cut congestion and reduce the number of accidents on UK roads.
According to the Association of British Drivers, the plans put forward by shadow transport secretary Teresa Villiers yesterday (October 7th) could be good news for motorists.
The group claimed proposals to reduce the number of speed cameras and traffic lights on UK roads made a welcome change from recent policies.
Spokesman Nigel Humphries said: "We are delighted that the Conservatives are breaking ranks with contemporary, negative thinking on safety and congestion."
"For too long, badly thought out policies have obstructed our roads and penalised safe driving."
He argued that many traffic lights in the country have increased journey times rather than aided traffic flow, while speed cameras serve only to alienate the public and reduce the number of police patrols.
However, Mr Humphries added that he would like to see more details on how the party plan to generate investment in order to fund improvements to the country's road network.
According to the Freight Transport Association, continued investment in transport across the UK is vital if the nation is to remain globally competitive.
