Transport planning: Volvo trucks enjoys double award success

Transport planning bosses keen to improve their cost reduction and do their bit for the environment might consider enlisting the services of one award-winning manufacturer.

Volvo Trucks has landed two major honours this month in recognition of its ongoing efforts to improve fuel efficiency and help commercial vehicle operators reduce their transport bills.

Firstly, it picked up Fleet Transport magazine's Irish Truck of the Year 2010 award for its 11-litre FM model.

The company then followed up that success by landing the Greenfleet Large Goods Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year at a ceremony in London.

Judges handed out the gong on account of Volvo's efforts to develop environmental solutions for both truck and bus fleet operators across the UK and Ireland.

Commenting on the group's success, Volvo Trucks managing director Goran Nyberg said: "The positive thing for us is that Volvo met the downturn with a refreshed range of quality products."

"The Volvo FM with the 11-litre engine is an added value product that is tailor-made for the fleet sector."

Last week, electrical and ambient goods distributor Hi Way Express became the latest firm to turn to Volvo's commercial vehicles, taking on six new FE 18-tonne trucks to help boost its operations.
