Transport planning and logistics bosses are being urged to tighten up on driver safety by tackling the problem of ill-fitting head restraints.

The Fleet Safety Forum, run by safety charity Brake, will run a series of workshops offering transport managers across the UK advice on how to prevent whiplash and head injuries.

According to recent research conducted by the organisation, whiplash complaints account for nearly 1,200 personal injury claims every day.

However, around 75 per cent of drivers in Britain do not how to configure their head restraints in order to keep them safe in the event of an accident.

Roz Cumming, Fleet Safety Forum manager at Brake, said: "This is clearly an important and valuable workshop for fleet safety professionals to attend.

"We urge fleet safety, risk and HR managers to attend and use what they learn to prevent potentially crippling injuries amongst their workers."

According to accident management specialists Accident Exchange, the number of accidents in the UK is set to rise by around 15 per cent during October as drivers struggle to adapt to the autumn weather and greasy road surfaces.
