Professionals working in transport planning may like to take note of a new warning concerning the use of mobiles in cars.
Research conducted by ING Car Lease found that 61 per cent of professional drivers admitted to feeling under pressure to take calls while in control of a moving vehicle.
According to Fleetworld.net, this is a result of strains imposed on workers as a result of the economic downturn.
Some 39 per cent of drivers who took part in the investigation admitted they had texted or sent and received emails while behind the wheel.
ING warned transport planning professionals to enforce policies regarding mobile phone use as a result, since 16 per cent of people were not aware of their companies' regulations.
Diarmuid Fahy, head of risk at the firm, said: "Regardless of business performance, the one thing that should not be compromised is safety and it is just as important now as ever to make sure drivers and businesses have safety front of mind."
Meanwhile, an announcement by the RAC may affect transport planning. Director Stephen Glaister recently called for some roads to be privatised in the UK, the Financial Times reported.
