Truck manufacturers prepare for Euro 6 standards

Tuesday, 02/3/2010 01:16
Truck manufactures across the globe are gearing up for the introduction of the new Euro 6 emissions standards for newly-manufactured vehicles.

Under the new rules, which take effect from December 31st 2013, particle emissions must be halved and oxides of nitrogen emissions slashed by 77 per cent.

Volvo Trucks' manager of engine strategy and planning Mats Frantzen said the new standards will pose a tough test to all truck makers over the next few years.

However, he insisted that Volvo Trucks will rise to the challenge and meet the limit values, while continuing to provide cost savings for fleet managers.

"Our engine designers have made enormous progress in recent decades," he said. "We'll continue to reduce fuel consumption by about one percent a year.

"That means big savings, both in economic and environmental terms."

Earlier this year, Volvo Trucks announced plans to increase its production capacity over the coming months after seeing signs of increased demand from customers.
