Volvo Trucks is aiming to boost its market share in the construction industry with the launch of a new, rugged truck designed specifically for heavy building tasks.
The Volvo FMX, which will arrive in European markets this September, boasts a number of features aimed at increasing its suitability for the construction segment.
Based on the manufacturer's previous construction truck, the Volvo FM, the latest model sports a new central towing device, anti-slip steps and durable headlights.
Other features include a load sensor and optimised I-Shift gearbox, together with a new "rugged exterior and powerful stance" that make the vehicle "the perfect construction truck", the company said.
"With all the improvements in the Volvo FMX, combined with the development of a strong service offering for the construction business, we hope that our existing customers will become even more satisfied," said Goran Nyberg, managing director of Volvo Trucks UK and Ireland.
He added that the company is hopeful the new truck will also attract many new customers in the construction segment.
Prior to launch, the FMX underwent a specially-tailored testing programme at Volvo's giant Hallered facility in western Sweden, where test drivers were particularly impressed with the vehicle's comfort and driveability, according to the manufacturer.
