Volvo Trucks has announced the launch of a new low-entry version of its FE middleweight rigid model, which is now available across the UK and Ireland.

The FE Low Entry Cab (LEC), which spent two years in design and development, caters for up to three crew and the driver, providing easy entry and exit from the vehicle.

It is aimed mainly at the waste collection and recycling sectors, as well as users of specialist fire, airport and highways vehicles that require good ease of access for workers.

As well as single-step entry on the driver's side and comfortable cross-cab access, the vehicle features air conditioning, heated mirrors, power windows and additional storage.

Richard Osborne, Volvo Trucks UK fire and municipal account manager, said the FE LEC offers "real potential" in the among the refuse, fire and highways industries.

"It's a compact, low-height, manoeuvrable truck which is ideal for city work. The crew and the driver can get in and out comfortably, which is ideal for the stop-start nature of this type of application," he commented.

Earlier this month, Volvo FM Trucks received an order for 70 new FM trucks from UK value retailer Iceland as it prepared for the busy festive shopping period.
