Vehicle maintenance store Halfords has announced that it is to re-evaluate its supply chain after sales slid in its fourth quarter.
The decision to use the supply chain to strip costs from the business' operation highlights the number of savings available to a business through effective supply chain management.
Some interesting points have been made by the analysis of the company's results though, as sales of maintenance products have remained strong during the recession.
Sales of enhancement products such as satnavs, however, have been dented as the credit crunch tightened its grip on the consumer.
Halfords chief executive David Wild was quoted by Retail Weekly as saying: "Sat-navs are still a problem.
"Deflation has mitigated somewhat, but volumes have declined. But it's still a market with opportunity, and we're investing in it."
It is hoped that the company will be able to save £4 million per year, the report added.
Outsourcing supply chain management is one way small and medium-sized enterprises can ensure find costs to cut without losing too much management time.
