An Irish bakery is set to invest 1 million (£811,000) in its supply chain network over the next three years.
Irwin's Bakery announced the move as it seeks to establish a direct route to retailers in the Dublin area of the country, Bakerinfo.co.uk revealed.
The Portadown-based, family-owned firm said the investment will lead to a 750,000 increase in turnover during the next year.
To date the company has supplied its retail customers in the south of Ireland through third-party distribution centres but the move should help it achieve more efficient levels of contact with retailers.
Brendan Lappin, business development manager, said: "For the independent retailer, having direct contact with a bakery supplier allows for two-way communication and improved efficiencies across orders, stock control and delivery management."
Clothing retailer Urban Outfitters recently announced it had made huge savings on labour costs and improved its operation by strengthening its supply chain.
