EU to assess food supply chains

Thursday, 11/12/2008 11:41
Food prices are being tackled by the European Union (EU) via food's supply chain, it has been reported.

With food prices growing in 2008 and the EU choosing not to consolidate retailers for fear of encouraging high prices, the European Union has now decided to assess supply chains of food in order to find areas in which it can cut costs.

"Cartels are hard-core restrictions of competition," said the European Commission in a recent report.

"Recent experience shows that cartels can occur in the food sector and that they are of varying territorial scope," it added.

Supply chains are increasingly being recognised as great sources for cutting costs and improving a company's flexibility, and many companies will be looking at their supply chains in order to become more competitive during 2009.

A supply chain management company can offer most organisations the chance to save time and money while becoming more responsive by streamlining a supply chain for any other firm.
