The US home tools store, Home Depot, has embarked on a mission to drastically reduce costs by 2010 by assessing its supply chain, it has been reported.
Announcing the new measures at a recent meeting of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, CEO Frank Blake said that less-than-truckload shipments would be cut to save costs.
"We are the single largest less-than-truckload shipper in the United States," Blake said in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report.
"A lot of trucks are going to stores that aren't full. It's not efficient."
But Home Depot is lucky to be able to spend £60 million in the next year and £135 million throughout the course of 2010 to fix the problem.
Smaller companies hoping to save money through increasing efficiency in their supply chains may choose to employ a third-party supply chain management company, which can assist on an overhaul of a supply chain.
